I learned a long time ago that God doesn’t enlarge our territory so OUR name will be made great; God enlarges our territory so that HIS name will be made great THROUGH us.

.

But some of us want a platform for one reason only; to make others sorry for offending us. We want to have the money, notoriety and power just so we can flaunt it. Just so we can tell other people we’re too busy to help them since they didn’t help us. But the true test of your maturity is what you do when people who didn’t help you… need you.

.

Because of what I do at Facebook, I have people come to me all of the time asking for help. Including people who chose not to help me when they could. I will never forget the day one such person texted me with a frantic need… and I deleted their text without responding. In the moment I felt completely justified and validated, but shortly thereafter the Holy Spirit convicted me. And I mean REALLY convicted me. He said, “Who do you think you are? Do you think you’re in the position you’re in so you can get invited to speak at conferences? Do you think you’re in the position you’re in so people can want to be your friend? NO! You’re in the position you’re in because I trust you to be the conduit through which my Kingdom advances. This isn’t about you. And if I want someone else to be in your shoes, I will remove you just like I appointed you.”  Talk about getting me right on together!

.

Ever since that day, I have made it a point to help anyone and everyone that I can. So much so that my team and colleagues often look at me like… really, DE EDIFIER?!?! I can’t help everyone, but even when people who ignored me when I needed them send me that text or email or DM, I do what I can. Why? Because the level of petty we have in obscurity will only intensify in the spotlight.

.

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
