First, we need to understand that there is only One Church, that is the Body of Christ. Just because someone moves from one congregation to another doesn’t mean they have left the Body of Christ. Below are some of the reasons why people move
1. GOSSIP
It hurts when the same people you worship with gossip about you behind your back.
2. SCANDALS
Scandals chase away people who look for integrity and a Godly covering
3. STAGNANT GROWTH
Those who want to eat solid food get put off by preaching that is still at milk level
4. CELEBRITY HYPE
Some move to worship where the celebrities worship
5. TRIBALISM AND RACISM
When peope feel excluded, they move to where everyone is acceptable
6. LACK OF GROWTH IN CHILDREN
Parents who feel their children are not being nurtured move their family to where the children will spiritually grow
7. RELOCATION
Some look for a new church after moving houses due to work or study
8. CHURCH POLITICS
The hunger for power breaks congregations in an ugly way leading to an exodus
9. FRUSTRATION
Those who are gifted and want to serve but are opposed and frustrated eventually tend to move to where they are allowed to maximize their giftings
10. MARRIAGE
Some move congregations to worship with their spouses
11. JUDGEMENT
Those who have fallen but receive attacks and condemnation instead of grace, move to congregations where they can be shown God’s love
12. ONE ISSUE SERMONS
When a congregation keeps talking about one issue, those looking for holistic growth move
13. CALLING
Some move to start their own ministry or causes.
14. LACK OF RELEVANCE
Those who feel the sermons and activities are not relevant to their needs and demography with no signs of changing, move to a place of relevance
15. BREAK AWAY FROM PARENTS
Some look for their own congregation, not to be stuck with the one of their parents
16. BURN OUT
Some who have been serving and giving their all and been taken for granted eventually get burnt out and move to a new environment where they can breathe
17. GOD’S WILL
Some move because God convicted them to in order to fulfil purpose. Purpose is geographical
At the end of it all, the question is “Are you growing spiritually?”. Where you have planted yourself, are you playing a role towards growth?
